Antibodies
Antibody, a protective protein produced by the immune system of higher animals in response to the presence of a foreign substance called an antigen. Antibodies recognize antigens and attach to them in order to eliminate them. We consider a wide variety of substances to be antigens, including disease-causing organisms and toxic materials such as insect venom.
Antibodies belong to glycoproteins, which we call immunoglobulins. Antibodies are divided into five classes according to their constant region. Each class is indicated by a letter attached to the abbreviation of the word immunoglobulin: IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD and IgE. Antibody classes differ not only in their constant region but also in their activity.
Antibodies, which are produced artificially using genetic engineering and related techniques, are particularly valuable in research and medicine because of their ability to recognize individual antigenic sites on almost any molecule, from drugs and hormones to microbial antigens and cell receptors.
Elabscience® offers a wide range of guaranteed and well-selected antibodies that are rigorously validated to ensure their purity and quality. Depending on the application, they can be used in ELISA, WB, IHC and IF and flow cytometry (FCM).
